Looking at a straight line on a map
Is like looking at the sharpened edge
Of a knife.

Territory lines slit rivers like veins.
As wrists drain, above heads fists
are raised.

Power speeds the clotting.



 From the Midlands, Rebecca Took was shortlisted for the Martin Starkie Prize 2016 and has been published in Ramona Magazine, Kairos Literary Magazine, and The Missing Slate. She was a contributor to Seven Voices TT’16.
